What is enough?

How Do I Know If I Have Enough? Finding Financial Clarity in a Changing Market

One of the most common questions I hear is, "How do I know if I have enough?" In today’s fluctuating stock market, with volatility causing constant uncertainty, it’s no surprise that fear and anxiety around financial resources are at an all-time high.

As a financial advisor at True Abundance Advisors, I help my clients shift their perspective from focusing solely on wealth accumulation to redefining what "enough" truly means at different stages of life.

What is “Enough” at Different Life Stages?

In our 20s, having enough might simply mean affording a shared apartment with a friend and having extra cash for a weekly night out. Fast forward 20 years, and "enough" transforms into ensuring we have sufficient income to support our families, pay the mortgage, and enjoy the occasional vacation.

It’s perfectly normal for our expenses to grow alongside our income, as our desires shift toward more comfort and security. But there’s a point where wanting more crosses into grasping—fueled by scarcity and fear. This can prevent us from appreciating the abundance already present in our lives.

My Journey Toward Financial Freedom

Around 10 years ago, I realized that I was holding onto a career that no longer aligned with my core values. By focusing on what truly mattered—my family, meaningful work, and the freedom to enjoy life—I recognized that I didn’t need the "extras" I thought I did, such as a 6,000-square-foot house or lavish vacations.

This was the beginning of my financial transformation. I downsized, sold my vacation home, and aligned my finances with my real priorities. Now, I have enough, not because I’m wealthy, but because my resources reflect my values and the life I want to lead.
